Building Your Confidence From the Start
Our training programme is designed to help new foster carers feel prepared, confident and supported from the very beginning.
Before approval, you will take part in preparation training, often called Skills to Foster. It covers what fostering involves, why children come into care, and how to support them. It is also a great chance to meet other people starting their fostering journey.
After approval, your supervising social worker will support you to complete the Training, Support and Development Standards in your first year. You will also take core courses such as safeguarding, first aid and managing behaviour, along with sessions on understanding trauma and attachment.
Training is free, flexible and offered face to face and online. Combined with regular supervision, 24/7 support and our multi-disciplinary team, it gives new carers everything they need to make a positive start.
