Foster Caring in Herefordshire

Creating Safe, Local Homes for Herefordshire’s Children

Herefordshire is a county with a strong sense of community and a growing need for dedicated foster carers who can provide safe, nurturing homes for children. At Match Foster Care, we work closely with individuals and families in the region, offering tailored support, training, and guidance to help carers make a lasting difference.

Whether you live in Hereford itself, or in one of the surrounding market towns and villages, fostering in Herefordshire gives you the chance to play a vital role in shaping the lives of young people who need stability and encouragement.

Rooted in Herefordshire, Backed by Us

Fostering in Herefordshire comes with its own unique challenges, from rural isolation to gaps in service coverage. That’s why our approach is designed around your community. Whether you’re based in Hereford city or in more remote areas like Leintwardine or Kington, our local team is here with hands-on guidance and practical tools suited to where you live.

We believe the best outcomes happen when carers feel confident, connected and backed every step of the way. With Match Foster Care, fostering is never something you do alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

To become a foster parent, you’ll need to be a UK resident (or have indefinite leave to remain), and be able to take care of a young person full-time. To qualify, you’ll need to go through an assessment, something a local foster care agency, such a Match, can provide. During the assessment, you’ll receive training and support, designed to help you on your foster care journey.

Foster care agencies provide loving homes to children who are unable to live with their families. Short-term foster parents usually look after children while plans are made for their future. Respite or short break foster carers provide a safe place for children to stay a few nights. Long-term foster care usually means looking after young people until they become adults.

Foster parents have many of the same responsibilities as parents. They must maintain the health of their children, ensure that they go to school, be their advocates, and help children to make sense of their emotions.
