Foster Care Worcestershire FAQs
Foster parents get paid a generous fostering allowance for each child in their care, which you can check using the fostering allowance calculator. While the foster care allowance is taxable, many of our foster parents only pay very little, if any, tax at all.
Foster parents must be responsible and fit enough to care for a young person between the ages of 0 and 17. Worcestershire fostering agencies may need you to be available even on short notice to look after a child. Depending on whether you get long-term or short-term foster children, you may want to keep a part-time job to secure your household income. As a foster parent, you can still work as long as it doesn’t impede your fostering services. We do not expect you to be available at all times. Part of our assessment process is to understand whether you have sufficient availability.
Foster parents do not need to be British citizens. Yet you have to be a UK resident or have an indefinite leave to remain to provide foster care services in Worcestershire.
There’s no requirement to have your own home. But it is important to provide the child with a spare bedroom.
