How can I understand the different types of payments available for foster carers?

The Different Payments Explained

Foster carer pay can seem confusing at first, but it is simpler than it looks. At Match Foster Care, your payments are made up of a few clear parts, and we explain each one before you begin.

The main payment is your weekly fostering allowance. This covers the cost of caring for a child, such as food, clothing, travel and activities, and also includes a fee for your skills and time. The amount depends on the placement type and the child's age and needs.

On top of this, there may be extra payments for special occasions such as birthdays, Christmas and other festivals, and holidays. Respite carers are paid for the nights a child stays with them. Specialist placements attract an enhanced rate, reflecting the extra care involved.

If you are unsure about any part of your pay, your supervising social worker and our office team are always happy to help.
