Support Beyond the Weekly Allowance
Your weekly fostering allowance is the main way foster carers are paid, but it is not the only support available. Foster carers may also benefit from special tax arrangements, which mean that many carers pay little or no tax on their fostering income.
There may also be extra payments to help with the cost of special occasions, such as a child's birthday, Christmas or other religious festivals, and holidays. Depending on the placement, help may also be available with things like setting up a bedroom when a child first arrives.
Some of the most valuable support does not come as money at all. At Match Foster Care, you receive free training, a supervising social worker with a low caseload, 24/7 support from people who know your family, and access to our therapeutic practitioner, registered nurse and education workers. We also run family activity days and events, so you and the children in your care can have fun together without the cost.
Your circumstances are unique, so we always recommend speaking to our team for a clear picture of what you could receive. We will explain every part of the package before you start, so you know exactly where you stand.
