Training for Every Stage of Fostering
Match Foster Care offers a full programme of training for foster carers, covering everything from the basics to specialist skills.
It starts with preparation training before approval. In your first year as a carer, you will complete the Training, Support and Development Standards, along with core courses such as safeguarding, first aid, safer caring, managing behaviour and recording.
You can then build your skills with courses on topics such as understanding trauma and attachment, therapeutic parenting, supporting children's education and health, online safety, caring for teenagers and preparing young people for independence. Our therapeutic practitioner, registered nurse and education workers also run sessions in their areas of expertise.
All training is free for Match foster carers, with face-to-face and online options. Your supervising social worker will help you choose the courses that are right for you and the children in your care.
