How can I access training specifically tailored for supporting foster carers' children?

Helping Your Children Adjust to Fostering

Fostering changes family life, and it is natural to want to help your own children through those changes. Supporting birth children is covered from the very start, in your preparation training and fostering assessment.

During your assessment, your assessing social worker will talk with your children and include their views. This helps everyone understand what fostering will mean for your family before you begin.

Once you are approved, your supervising social worker can recommend training and resources about supporting your own children, such as how to talk about fostering, how to share time and attention fairly, and how to help your children cope when a foster child moves on.

Our support groups are also a great place to hear how other families manage. Many experienced carers have raised their own children alongside foster children and are happy to share what has worked for them.
