What training programmes are available for foster carers through supervising social workers?

Training Planned Around You

Your supervising social worker plays a key role in your training. They will help you plan your learning so that it fits your experience, your family and the children you care for.

In your first year after approval, your social worker will support you to complete the Training, Support and Development Standards. These cover the core knowledge every foster carer needs, such as safeguarding, understanding children's development and working with other professionals.

After that, your social worker will create a personal development plan with you, which is reviewed each year. They will recommend courses such as first aid, managing behaviour, understanding trauma and attachment, supporting education and caring for teenagers.

If a child in your care has particular needs, your social worker can arrange specialist training or bring in our multi-disciplinary team. All training is free for Match foster carers, with face-to-face and online options. Find out more on our Supervising Social Worker page, try our finance calculator, or get in touch with our team.
