Why a Support Network Matters
Starting out as a foster carer brings lots of new experiences. Having a network of people who understand what you are going through can make all the difference.
Other carers can offer practical advice that only comes from experience, from settling a child on their first night to preparing for meetings and reviews. Just knowing that others have faced the same challenges can be a great comfort.
A support network is also about friendship. Many Match carers meet at support groups and family activity days and go on to become good friends. The children in their care get to make friends too, with other children who understand what it is like to live in a foster family.
Being part of the community also helps you keep learning, with shared training sessions and visits from our multi-disciplinary team. It all helps you feel confident, supported and part of something bigger. Find out more on our Foster Carer Community page, try our finance calculator, or get in touch with our team.
