Frequently Asked Questions

Of course, fostering is a career, not a hobby. All our foster parents receive a generous fostering allowance designed to alleviate the costs of caring for a child and recognise their efforts. The allowance takes account of the duration of the placement, the age of the child, and special needs when relevant. If you want to find out how much a foster parent gets paid, you can use our fostering allowance calculator.

Absolutely. Foster parenting is often associated with a couple or a family. But families come in all shapes and sizes.  The most important thing is your ability to provide a loving home.  We will provide plenty of support.

Definitely! At Match Foster Care, what matters to us is to find foster parents with the right qualities to look after a child and provide a safe environment for their growth. Your gender, age, ethnicity and sexual orientation can all play a positive role in helping a young person to reach their full potential.

Foster parents must be responsible and fit enough to care for a child between the ages of 0 and 17.

You don’t need to be a British citizen to reach out to a foster care agency in the UK. However, you must be a UK resident or have indefinite leave to remain to become a foster parent.

It is important to know that foster parents are self-employed. But you can keep a part-time job while providing fostering services as long as it doesn’t stop you being available when required. We work with you during the assessment process to determine whether you have enough availability. There is no need to be available at all times.

You need to provide the child in your care with a spare bedroom.

Are you unsure whether you qualify to become a foster parent? Our team at Match Foster Care will be happy to answer all your questions about how to foster a child.
